MAROUBRA SUBURB PROFILE

10km’s East of Sydney CBD, Maroubra is the largest suburb in the Randwick council. The name Maroubra is derived from an Aboriginal word meaning ‘like thunder’ and is the description of the waves pounding the shoreline. The beach is popular with experienced surfers due to its good swell and wave conditions.

Maroubra is the second Australian beach to be names a National Surfing Reserve. The beach is patrolled year round by lifeguards. It is popular with visitors given its easy access and long sandy beach.

Arthur Byrne Reserve is situated directly adjacent to the beach and has many grassed areas making it ideal for BBQ’s or a picnic. The park also offers a free outdoor gym, a skate park, children’s playground as well as toilets and change rooms.
Jack Vanny Reserve is situated on the northern headland of Maroubra Beach and forms a part of the Eastern Beaches Coastal walk. From this open, grassed and rocky reserve, there are spectacular views of Maroubra Beach to the south and Lurline Bay to the north. Steps lead from the middle of the reserve to Mahon Pool which is a popular swimming location and generally a safer and calmer option for children than Maroubra Beach.

Maroubra Junction is one of the main shopping areas in the district and is home to Pacific Square shopping centre. The shopping centre and its surrounds has many eateries and restaurants as well as super markets and speciality stores. All of this combined with the beach makes living in Maroubra the ideal lifestyle.
