ELIZABETH BAY SUBURB SPOTLIGHT

The suburb is surrounded by Rushcutters Bay, Potts Point and King's Cross. With a vibrant community feel and tree-lined streets the suburb has over the years become one of the most densely populated areas to live in Sydney. Known for offering a convenient, creative and cosmopolitan lifestyle, the suburb has become increasingly popular over the last 10 years due to its close proximity to the city centre and the growth of residential apartment blocks, local businesses, shops, cafes and restaurants.

Major features of the area include St Luke’s hospital, Arthur McElhone reserve, Beare Park, Lawrence Hargrave Park, Macleay reserve, Elizabeth Bay Marina and Elizabeth Bay house. Elizabeth Bay was named in honour of Governor Lachlan Macquarie’s wife, Elizabeth.

The suburb is filled with historic homes, none more famous than 'Elizabeth Bay House', built between 1835-1839 for Colonial Secretary Alexander Macleay, the home is known as one of the finest in the colony and is a superb example of Australian colonial architecture.
