Baron Nikolai Miklouho-Maklai was a noted Russian scientist and explorer of South-East Asia, New Guinea and neighbouring Pacific islands, also the founder of the first marine biological station in the Southern Hemisphere at Camp Cove. His wife Margaret, Lady de Miklouho-Maklai, was the daughter of Sir John Robertson who was five times premier of New South Wales. Margaret as a widow lived at "Ayroo", 127 Old South Head Road, Bondi Junction for almost the rest of her time with us.
